Candle Safety Tips

  • Remove all packaging before lighting.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended or burn close to anything that might catch fire or try to move it while it is burning.

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

  • Be sure to place candle on a stable, heat resistant surface before lighting. For candles in metal containers, using a cork or stone coaster is best as they tend to get hotter than other types of containers.

  • Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimming and debris, including burnt matches.

  • Avoid air drafts which can cause shooting and uneven burning and remember to burn all candles in a well-ventilated room.

  • If flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly check for drafts or high traffic areas. Also, be sure that the wick is trimmed to the length stated on your candle’s bottom label or on “Candle Care and Usage Tips” card. If it is longer, then extinguish, trim the wick, and relight.

  • Never burn a candle longer than 4 hours and cool for at least two hours before relighting.

  • When lighting a candle use long matches or a long reach lighter, Keep your hair and loose clothing away from the flame.

  • Never use water to extinguish a candle, water can cause the hot wax to splatter and might break a glass container.

  • Use a snuffer to extinguish a candle and don’t touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.

  • Never touch or move a burning candle

  • Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another. This is to make sure they don’t melt one another or create their own drafts that will cause the candles to burn improperly.

  • Stop using your candle when only ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

  • Never use a knife or sharp object to remove wax drippings from a glass holder. It might scratch, weaken, or cause the glass to break upon subsequent use.

  • Never use a candle as a night light

  • Be very careful if using candles during a power outage

  • Remember, treat your candles with caution, they involve an open flame.
